A Brief History

Extract from Facebook Freystrop page referencing Grab Tree Cottage and Pear Tree Cottage - both built around 1850

Grab Tree is the correct name. Beryl does discuss it in the Freystrop & Folk book but a skim through just now didn't throw it up. It was the former manager's house for Cardmaker's Pool Colliery and had a third room for the office part (info courtesy of Jen Forrest). Pear Tree was the weighbridge for the colliery and was 'adopted' as housing when the colliery closed (courtesy of Rachel Thompson I think that info was). After Jamesie's demise there was apparently no paperwork as deeds, etc and it all had to be created anew. Thus, Grab Tree existed first and it may well be that there were pear trees at Pear Tree.
